When big names in the aftermarket automotive industry like LINE-X and Jesse James come together for a vehicle build, you know you’re in for something special. Fans of diesel trucks and custom-built trucks won’t be disappointed when they see a Jesse James creation. Having debuted at the 2018 SEMA Show, Jesse James’ custom built 1993 Dodge D350 flatbed welding truck features a LINE-X spray-on automotive coating and Truck Gear by LINE-X accessories to help celebrate the brand’s historic 25th anniversary. With a build as rich in hallmarks as the LINE-X lineage, the “Pope of Welding’s” custom-built Dodge represents the brand's beginnings 25 years ago. Today, LINE-X is a global leader in powerful protective coatings, renowned spray-on bedliners, and first-rate truck accessories.
“I built this cool truck for LINE-X. It’s the 25th anniversary of LINE-X, and they asked if I would build a 1993 Dodge RAM. I was like ‘hell yeah!’” Jesse said.
His search for a ’93 D350 certainly wasn’t the easiest. According to Jesse, the foundation had to meet a checklist of sorts in order to begin the build. “I knew if I was going to do a ’93, it obviously had to be a 12-valve Cummins engine, an extended cab, a dually and have a manual shifter,” Jesse said.
After searching all around the nation, Jesse only found iterations which were used beyond his needs. Until he struck diesel gold and found a prime example in Georgia. Once he acquired the new-to-him Dodge D350, the build was on. Jesse partnered with LINE-X and Texas Hot Rods and set out with two goals in mind for the build: First, make a vintage truck that was different. Second, make it a staple for Truck Gear by LINE-X parts.
LINE-X got to work by spraying the flatbed and both bumpers on the vintage D350 with its PLATINUM spray-on coating – LINE-X's strongest coating available. Jesse channeled inspiration from the everyday diesel enthusiast with the incorporation of LINE-X's capabilities. LINE-X PLATINUM compliments all types of flatbeds and can protect against scratches, abrasions, and impacts, as well as rust and corrosion. The coating also protects against petroleum products, is easy to clean and is UV stable so it’ll look great for years to come.
What made Jesse's vintage truck one of the most popular rigs at the 2018 SEMA Show was all the work-truck amenities, especially the fully restored vintage Lincoln arc welder that looks brand new. When it comes to any high-end restoration, it's all about the details. This truck was no exception, even the hide-away reels and gas welding lines were hidden cleanly beneath the bed.
